The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and Planetarium is a museum that focuses on ancient Egypt and is located in the Rosicrucian Park in the city of San Jose, California. The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and Planetarium is currently the only ancient Egyptian museum to be housed in a building that is designed in an Ancient Egyptian architecture style. This may something that may seem like a rather small detail, but it adds to the realism of the museum and the artifacts found inside. This museum is a great place to spend an hour or two of your time and is easily one of the best places to visit while in the San Jose area.
The major exhibits that are featured at the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and Planetarium are the Rock Cut Tomb, burial practices and mummies, religion and daily life. All of these exhibits display amazing artifacts from ancient Egypt and feature replications to show what it was really like during the time. Along with showing how the ancient Egyptians lived, the exhibits also explains their beliefs. This allows you to be able to fully understand the ancient Egyptians and why each artifact was important to them.
The Rock Cut Tomb is probably the most popular and best exhibit. It does not feature any actual artifacts, but it makes you fell like you are in an actual tomb. The Rock Cut Tomb exhibit is designed to exactly replicate the Rock Cut Tomb located in Egypt. It is done exceptionally well and makes it hard to believe it is a replication. The mummies that are featured are also a favorite and have to be seen by anyone that enjoys Egyptian culture and history.
The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum is currently open on Wednesdays through Sundays, and features an adult admission price of $9. The museum is rather small and can be seen in about an hour, but all of the information and sights make it a decent value. The planetarium is located next to the main museum and features shows on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The planetarium is temporary closed, but it is always a great show when open. There are few places in San Jose that you can gain as much knowledge and have as much fun as you can at The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum, which makes it easily one of the best museums in the bay area.
